Scope note
Refers to a period and style that developed primarily in the last decade of the fifteenth century in Florence and Rome, spreading elsewhere in Italy and to northern Europe. It is generally considered to end with the development of Mannerism in the 1520s. The style evolved from the Early Renaissance and is characterized by a new vision of human grandeur, heroic action, compositional order, symmetry, balance, and harmony.
